How does Auto Skip work?

In general, the idea behind Auto Skip is that these are items you usually don’t want to listen to, but you still want to keep them in your library for rare occasions, in case you change your mind later, or just for the sake of having a complete collection.

When you set an item to Auto Skip, that item will not play automatically when you play a collection that includes it as well as other items, and it will not appear in the playback queue. So for example, if you play an album with 10 songs and 2 of them set to Auto Skip, only the 8 other songs will play and will appear in the queue.

Even if an item is set to Auto Skip, you can still play it individually, but it will not appear alongside other items in the queue. Using the previous example again, if you played one of the 2 Auto Skip songs, only that one song would appear in the queue, and not the other 9 songs on the album.

You can manually add Auto Skip items to the queue with “Play Next” or “Play Last” menu items.

Note that Auto Skip can also be used in combination with favorites and pins. If you select “Play Favorite Songs” but some of them are set to Auto Skip, those songs will not be played.

Which source types support Auto Skip?

Currently, only On My Mac sources with Librarian enabled.
