How do pins work?

When you pin an item, it always appears at the top of the list. You can unpin it at any time.

You can pin artists and albums.

Pins are only available for “On My Mac” sources with Librarian enabled.

How do favorites work?

When you are browsing the artists or albums view, you can choose to play only favorite songs.

When you are browsing the artists view, you can choose to play only favorite albums.

Currently, Radiccio does not provide any functionality related to your favorite artists, but you can still mark artists as favorites if you want.

External source types which connect to a server (like Jellyfin) may use favorite information in other ways. Please consult their documentation for details.

Favorites are not currently available for Apple Music because MusicKit does not provide this functionality (FB18130112).

What is the difference between pins and favorites?

Pins are intended as more of a short-term thing, for helping you remember that those items exist; for example, an album or artist you recently thought about, and want to listen to later. After you’ve listened to it a few times, you might decide to unpin it.

Favorites are intended as more of a long-term thing, and also as a simple way to filter your library. If you have an artist with 100 songs but you really love 10 of them, you can favorite those 10 and then use the “Play Favorite Songs” menu item to play just those 10.

However, what sort of meaning and significance you ascribe to these features is ultimately up to you. You may find that one or the other works better with your habits, or you may use both at the same time.
