Does Radiccio support files with Digital Rights Management (DRM)?

No, we are not able to support files with DRM.

How do I know if my files have DRM?

The best way is to go to the web site where you purchased the files, and search their support site for “DRM”. The answer is often very easy to find that way, as stores that sell DRM-free music are proud of this and happy to tell you about it.

In general, subscription streaming services almost always use DRM, and one-time purchases of music albums (made after 2008 or so) usually do not, however we cannot say for certain what the policies of other companies are. Please check with them.

Files with the extension m4p are an indication that they have DRM, and Radiccio does not work with such files. Other types may also have DRM and it is not always clear from the extension, so please refer to the preceding advice.

Do Apple Music or iTunes Store files have DRM?

Purchased files

In general, files purchased from the iTunes Store after 2009 or so usually do not have DRM, and can be used with an “On My Mac” source. DRM-free iTunes Store files have the m4a extension.

iTunes Store files with DRM have an m4p extension. These files cannot be used with an “On My Mac” source. You may be able to play this content by adding an Apple Music source, if it is still available through Apple.

Downloaded files via paid Apple Music subscription

Files downloaded through the paid Apple Music subscription service have DRM, and cannot be used with an “On My Mac” source.

If you have an active paid Apple Music subscription, you can play this content by adding an Apple Music source.
